Square maximizes usable coverage for the same footprint and sits neatly against walls

Are glass chair mats made of tempered glass?
Yes. Every size is made from tempered safety glass. Tempering puts the
surface under compression, making it substantially stronger than ordinary annealed
glass of the same thickness — and in the unlikely event it does break, it
crumbles into small, blunt granules rather than long sharp shards.
